Coach launched its customization service, Coach Create, in October, offering handbag lovers the chance to design a bag that reflects their personal style. Recently, I had the opportunity to visit the Coach House on 5th Avenue in New York City to experience the process firsthand. From selecting the silhouette to adding the final monogrammed touches, every step is guided by expert craftsmen.

Choosing the Perfect Bag Shape

I chose the Saddle Bag for its balance of ease and structure. Its practical interior layout, with a zip pocket, two compartments, and a snap closure, makes it a strong everyday option. For anyone looking for a handbag that works from day to day without feeling overly formal, the shape is a sensible place to start.

Selecting Your Color Palette

While neutrals are always tempting, I chose a light pink shade called peony. This color works as a soft neutral and pairs effortlessly with black, grey, and white wardrobes. The result is a bag that adds a subtle pop of color without overpowering your look.

Customization Options: Pins, Patches, and Rivets

I was initially drawn to the tea roses, but I ultimately chose prairie rivets for their sharper, more graphic effect. The in-store iPad makes it easier to experiment with placement and color before anything is finalized, which helps you judge how the details will work together on the finished piece.

Designing Your Monogrammed Hang Tag

The final step is creating a custom hang tag. I chose gold lettering with my initials and added a small bee emoji between them. The tag can be stamped with your choice of font, placement, and optional emoji. Watching Your Bag Come to Life

The experience takes about two hours, which makes it feel immersive without being rushed. Once the bag is complete, you can take it home later, have it shipped, or spend time nearby while it is being finished.
